«A particular highlight in the For 4 Ears catalogue is Fibre, the collaboration between Tomas Korber, Gunter Muller, and Keith Rowe. A crackling electricity is discernible between the players, paced with space in mind and populated with carefully nurtured sounds unencumbered by any nodal points that might quilt or otherwise stop their sliding. At times, the recording sounds almost homogeneous, yet played at but a paltry few decibels higher, and a percussive element is revealed, one which rises up into vaulted chords and swooping feedback tones of a grander scheme. It’s certainly a congenial context for Muller, his chameleon-like presence continually lubricates this music’s incessant repetition of a beginning ex nihilo, in the restrained yet quite dramatic annihilation and retroactive restructuring of the presupposed contents.» «…this one is unconditionally recommended.» «…le trio ici s’en tient à la fibre sonore, et la tresse avec une intelligence et un art en tous points estimables.» «As far as collaborations go, one of the most dramatic ones so far this year is one from electronics guru/guitarist Tomas Korber, guitarist Keith Rowe and electronics guru [once percussionist] Gunter Muller. "Fibre" takes these three musicians on a dramatic journey of pure, unadulterated sound. What's wonderful about this effort is the multitude of relationships that exist within this small trio. … No matter if you choose to identify the sounds made with individual members of the unit, all sounds generated are unique in their own peculiar way. Repeat listening sessions are highly encouraged. Each one brings out new nuances that were somehow missed on the previous flight.» «A fantastic release.» «Un opus de musique de chambre pour "homme et machine".» «… Played at low volume it's unobtrusive, even ambient – but turning the wick up reveals a world going on underground, a network of crossing lines, intricate polyrhythms and shifting drones. … It's one of the most successful and satisfying releases in the genre to date.» «A meeting between three of electro-acoustic music’s most exciting players – … – it’s an exciting snapshot of a music that is developing and expanding at a dizzying rate.» «This rusty piling is a masterpiece of unconceivable mutability, whose inspissations are indeed clusters of energy shot by a network of psychoactive thought-transfering artists generating innovative, age-resisting music.» «An early favorite of 2006. Check it out.» « It's a highly intimate affair, this disc.» |
